I need a new steering stem for my yfz450. My question is, since steering stems are somewhat cheap and easy to replace, would it be best to get a weak(er) one so that is the first thing that breaks, leaving the more important parts safe? Or should I go top of the line, ensuring a very stable steering stem?
I could, say, get a new Houser steering stem and be confident that it wouldn't bend in a race if I were to case a double. Or if I get a used, or even new, stock stem, I know that will probably be the first thing to bend, being the weakest link.
I'll be getting Flexx Bars, which I know will let me have more give, and the chances of things like the steering stem bending, will be lower. But I'm still not sure on the quality of steering stem I should get.
