I recently replaced the V-Belt on my son's 2001 LT80...Aditionally, replaced a number of parts due to damage/rust including; plate and spring limiter, Movable Drive face rollers (4) and plate, cover, o-rings.

I tried to salvage; Clutch Assembly (cleaning rust off springs, backing plates etc.) the pads didnt look too bad (have been replaced by previous owner as well as modification to taking out 2 rollers from Dr.).

After i put all back together all seemed to be in working order according to manual. However when i tightened the last nut which holds the Clutch housing, Plate and Spring Limiter the rear axle seizes (will not rotate). I loosen the nut and it turns normally.

Torque on this nut is 30-45 lbs. even when not torqued (hand tightened) same results as above mentioned.

Any advice, corrections will be greatly appreciated. Family is hoping to go riding (camping) over the T-Giving Holiday.

Thank you in advance.

I was going to recommend you buy a service manual but it seems you allready have one. I would recommend changing springs while you have something like this apart. Springs will fatigue over time and become less effective. Not changing them is not the way to save money, usually causes headaches. Double check to make sure the quad is in neutral, Otherwise the tires won't turn anyways as you would be trying to rotate the engine and well and then your fighting against the engines compression, and unless your popeye, your not going to win. Other then that make sure you have eveything done to specs as per the service manual, take it out and put it back in again if your not sure. Otherwise it might be a job for the professionals.

Thank you for your time and insight.
I'm not sure what you mean by making sure it is in neutral? Its not clutch driven.... uses v-belt, centrifugal.
Am i missing something?
If so, can you provide additional insight?
Thanks again,
Craig

my bad, i forgot the lt80 don't have reverse, so there's probley no way to take it out of gear.........kids quads not something i'm around as much. Looking at the drawing I would guess it's a problem from the driven plate out. When you tighten that nut in i'm thinking your forcing the clutch to close. Maybe one of the springs was not put back in correctly or you got a plate in backwords or something so its not lining up correctly causing it to be thicker then its supposed to be?
