Hello, I've just bought a new (used) Kodiak 400 '98 off dbay and think I've got myself a heap full of problems :(
For starters the electric kill switch doesn't seem to be attatched to anything, it's completely loose, I can live with this but worried it may have been disconnected for a reason. The neutral light doesn't work, but again am not worried about it as long as it's nothing more sinister than a bulb thats gone. It doesn't seem like it runs well, stalls easily and smells of fuel also. I rode it yesterday for about 15 minutes all told with the lights on, I stopped and started up again a couple of times. However the last time I tried to start it it sounded as if the battery was flat, it would turn over slowly a couple of times and then turn VERY slowly and die, I'd try again and it would do the same thing. I got a jump start which got me home, stalled it when I got there and same again, though it had only done about 700 metres from jump start. Have now charged battery and it turns over normally but won't fire. I found when I took the battery out that it's a CTX14-BS and the manual says it should be a ytx20L-BS, so don't know if this could be the problem with it dying yesterday, but shouldn't it still be charging itself. I noticed when I took the battery out that on the positive side there was a small black wire and connector taped to the main positive wire but the small wire was not attatched to battery, any ideas also on what this could be? I've also discovered that it even turns over with the ignition off and the key out. Am reaaly worried I've bought myself a BIG headache so any help appreciated on what may be the problem/s. The lights also flicker on & off when in use, but i hope thats just a loose wire somewhere.
