400ex top end problems

irecently purchased an 02 400ex and it smokes really bad.i cleaned the carb, plug, and exhaust but no change. then i got on it one day and the exhaust glowed cherry red. anybody got any sugestions?

Hi, smoking engine's a sign that you're due a top end rebuild Ie; rebore, oversize piston, new gaskets, when you cleaned the plug was it oily? Exhaust glowing is usually due to incorrect valve clearances, which are easy to adjust on your model. :cool:

yep and its makin it run lean
