Hi i have a 08 polaris outlaw 450 the problem is it has an awsome KTM engine but the air box and exhaust strangles it the airbox is pathetic and designed so it sits in the narrow spot. was wondering if anyone else has tryed to combat this problem to fit a paper filter in it cant afford a new exhaust and jet kit at the moment as i just bought my first car.:)

Oh man, I got an 06 outlaw, I havn't sceen what the 08 got under the seat but I hope its better than mine. The air box itself isn't too bad but the pipe between the air box and the carb got a real restrictive bend to it. I put a K&N air filter on mine and it made a huge difference! Just around 40 bucks or so too so its something that you should really put on your quad.

I have alredy looked and K&N dont make a filter to go in the airbox.
i got a filter out of an old Hyundia and cut it down a bit and gaffa taped it in place it works good a huge improvement not to sure about how good it is at stopping dust but. the pipe from the airbox to the carb is straight on the 08 but the airbox is rubbish

Hey; do you know if there is any difference between the 525 irs and the 525s 2008 outlaw? I was just looking around on the k&n website and they have an air filter for the 525irs and not the 525s. I'm thinking this is just an oversight because I'm sure the only difference between these two bikes is the rear suspension setup. I realize that you got the 450 mxr but I was also wondering if there was either difference in the breather setup between your 450 and the 525 irs?

The rear suspension set up is the only diference but the strait axel bikes rear shock comes up right were the airbox is so the airbox is shaped so the shock can go there but on the IRS bike the rear shocks don't iterfere with the airbox and it has a large rectangular airbox and a k&n can fit in.

....bummer; don't know what to tell you dude other than to make sure that you got that hyundia filter taped in place good. You really don't want dust on the inside of that animal!

I think the best solution would be fabricating a air filter tube to the right path that can access more air.
