Bought a 2004 Suzuki Ltz 250 quadsport for my son since he's getting older. The problem I have is that every time he rides it, when he gets to 3rd or 4th gear it starts to slow down stall & bog out.Does anyone know what to do about this? the only thing I did was reg maintenance-I changed the oil filter, did an oil change, and put a new K&N air filter in it.I bought the ltz 250 in the mountains of Pa. where the altitude is much greater than central New Jersey could that be the problem?

Hows her idle. I would think if it's a carb issue she would sound funny at idle or even have a rough idle.

Sorry if I took to long to answer you back but I've been busy with the maintenance with all the quads. As a matter of fact your right about that, she does have a rough idle like you said. She tends to keep idling high for like 2-3seconds after I've let the throttle go and this is when it's on neutral then she calms down into a regulated idle.Keep in mind that whoever had this quad before never did anything to it but ride it.Do you think it's carbs that are dirty? or do you think the jets need to be replaced? I ordered a new FMF jet kit & exhaust for it anyway cause it's still stock and the stock exhaust is rusted like it's been riding through water.Help me give this 250 some TLC

Not really sure whats on the inside of that carburator, never worked on a suzuki. Was trying to get an idea from the oem page on babbits. I was wondering about the float. To me the bike seems to new to have the float worn out already but stranger things have happened. If you got it takin apart put the float in a sink full of water and push it under the water. If air bubbles up then there is a hole in the float and it needs to be replaced.

Then again it may only be dirt. I got a problem where I like to do the more difficult things first rather than the easy:D Maybe there is gum around one of the moving parts and slows down its motion causing your 2-3 seconds of high idle.

Just another thought; is the throttle hard to press? Maybe there is something sticking somewhere between the back of the button to where the little arm moves on the carburator?

Let us know how your making out

I really don't know much about Suzuki's either but I'm learning the hard way :( .I haven't had much time lately to check the carbs but I know that's what it is.The throttle is fine it's not sticking or anything but I did notice that when I took the choke housing off I didn't screw it back in properly cause it was late and I was tired. When I went back to unscrew the choke housing and fix it I noticed that the the small choke tube inside of the choke housing was pinched between housing and that's why it wouldn't close right from the beginning.I really think that the problem is in the carb & the jetting. This quad was a mess when I got it, an absolute big mess:( .Whoever had it before we bought it didn't really care to much about maintenance or keeping it clean after every ride.Like I said before someone treated this sport quad like a mud bogger or something. It's a shame cause this ltz-250 has an awesome kick to it, it's got power when you take off on 1st gear,it's really lite to jump with, and the shocks are great.

It really is a shame to hear of the bike being treated so poorly. Although I have never owned a suzuki, my cousin has had a few and a few of my friends got them too. They seem to be a real dependable bike, and with the right mods, a real fast bike. What a lot of people don't realize is that sport bikes don't like to be dirty. When you get them full of mud you should clean them up when you get home. Anyway I hope you are having fun learning about the suzuki and hope that she is out riding soon.

Your right about that, no bike or quad likes to be dirty but some people don't get it. I am learning a lot with this Suzuki it is a different machine all in all.Like I said before this LTZ-250 has some serious kick I gotta say but the shifting is a little notchy. My son is a little afraid of it cause he's used to throwing around the 80.But that's good because he respects it! he knows it's nothing like my 250ex that he rides sometimes which is much heavier than the Suzuki. His Suzuki is very lite and fast!
