View Full Version : LT80 with major flooding

I have a 2001 LT80 Quadsport that we have owned for a few years. I could not get it started this spring because it was so flooded, the engine would not even crank. Fuel was up to the air cleaner neck so I imagine the cylinder was full. I drained a bunch of fuel from the exhaust drain plug as well which I assume leaking into the manifold from an exhaust valve. I got it running now but it is still sputtering fuel out of the exhaust with a little white smoke. I remember last season my son didn't ride it much but when he did it was smoking like this and smelled like gas (that's putting it mildly...it burned your eyes).
Would this likely be a carb issue, the petcock or something else?

I would check the carb, it could have a bad slide, It probably just needs to be replaced, also if there is not a fuel shut off, I would suggest if it sits for longer then a few days I would drain the fuel out of it.

If she won't crank then your cylinder would have to be full of fuel. If you were to drain all the fuel out of her cylinder, carb, etc. will it fill back up while she is shut off or do she only flood like this when she is running? If it's only while she is running i'm thinking defininate carb problem but if she does it while she is off too then I would ask if your quad is being stored on a level surface? Also if she is running rich to that extent I am extreemly surprised that she actually worked to begin with.
