Sputtering

I don't know if I am posting in the right area, if I am not I apologize.
My husband recently bought a 2003 Quadrunner 160, and he got things working well, but now, when we ae riding, and we hit a bump it starts sputtering. most times it rights itself and get bette, but sometimes it doesn't. What could cause this?

I think it needs to be rejetted if it sputters out of the exhaust.When he hits the throttle does it sputter? cause if it does then it definitely needs to get it rejetted.
