I just recently purchased an '02 Bear Tracker Quad. Its 2wd, but i was wondering if anyone has the same thing happen. When i start it cold, as it has a 250 4 stroke engine, it is very cold blooded. The guy i bought it from, had it checked out by his mechanic, and they told him thats the nature of the beast, and he told me to keep the choke out just a little bit, for the first 10-15 minutes or until i feel it getting loaded up, which i did and it ran fine after. Also, oil changes, what does everyone use? Regular 10W30, 10W40, or special oil for motorcycles etc? And he said he puts just a little bit of STP oil treatment in every oil change, is that ok? He told me not to use like slick 50 or products like that as its bad for the clutches or something. Which i wouldn't anyways. All in all, its a great little quad, and fun. Hope to hear some feedback, Jim

Do you mean she keeps bogging out and shutting off. If so dad had the same problem when he bought a brand new kawasiki kvf 360. After she made countless trips back to the dealer (under warenty) the dealer finally said this is how the quad is supposed to be. After her warenty was up me and my cousin desided to check the valves. We set them to factory specs and now you don't need to use the choke on most starts, of course in the winter she still needs some help but thats what you expect from a carborated engine.

No, the ATV starts fine, runs strong, but just is what i would call "cold blooded", and it has like a small hesitation at lower RPM's. It runs fine during and after putting the choke off completely, it runs awesome. I believe it is the nature of the beast, as the machine idles and runs fine. Did an oil change on it today, and LQQKs like it had been awhile since the last 1 was done. 1.5 Qts, does that sound about right? Jim PS Any idea where i might find an owners manual for it?

Try looking on yamaha's website or getting a torrent for it. If you want to buy the hard copy try on ebay or go to your local dealer and see if they can hook you up.

Most of the older models run that way.Usually 4-stroke older models need the choke up because it needs to breathe to warm up the engine.Just keep warming it up the way the guy told you, your doing fine:) .AS far as oil you can use Yamalube 4-stroke or 10W30 either or is just fine.My advice would be to use Yamalube 4-stroke because it is made especially for Yamahas. My son has the Yamaha PW50 & we use Yamalube 2-stroke & it seems like that is the only oil she likes so we use no other than Yamalube for all the 3 Yamaha's we own.

I'm not a fan of buying lube products from bike dealerships because they are usually they are the same as you can get anywere else with a jacked up price. I would like to know what you use on your chain. I have tried the polaris product and the chain is dry after one ride and I have tried products like fluid film. Although the chain stays well lubricated for about a month a fair bit flicks off and dirts up the frame big time.
